Update 2nd September 2016: This scanner is now supported in (it was added in version which was released earlier this year). This works with no fuss on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, and has a better interface than the Mustek software. VueScan Standard Edition costs $39.95 (approx £30) which is much cheaper than a new A3 scanner. Visit for more details. There appears to be several versions of the Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB scanner. Drivers for some later ones (with 600, 1200 or 2400 in the name) are available on the Mustek website here.

However the drivers for the earlier version (with no number in the name) seem to be almost impossible to find, and there are no Windows 7 drivers available. The Windows Vista driver can be made to work on Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit) with some tweaking. The information and driver are here, along with the Windows XP driver in case anyone still needs that. To confirm it is the right scanner for these drivers and instructions, check in Windows Device Manager. It should be shown as “USB Scanner” in “Other Devices” with an exclamation mark icon indicating no driver. Check the device properties and it should have these Hardware IDs: • USB VID_055F&PID_0210&REV_0100 • USB VID_055F&PID_0210 To install on Windows 7 follow the steps below: • Plug the scanner in and let Windows fail to find a driver.

The install does not load the device driver, you have to use the Advanced Startup app in Windows 8.1, and reboot the computer with Advanced Startup options enabled and select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement” mode.
